Avoid Being Banned By Google

Six things you should know to
avoid being banned by Google

1 :: Duplicate Content

If you have the same content in multiple web pages on your web site or an external web site, Google may punish your website pages by lowering Page Rank, or even banning a website completely!

If you think that a web site has copied your text content, you can issue a warning to the website's owner or visit www.google.com/dmca.html and tell them that someone is illegally using your website's content.

2 :: Cloaking and Redirecting

Cloaking is an unethical method of creating different website pages for search engines and visitors. Webmasters create keyword stuffed web pages that are designed to trick search engines. When a human visitor clicks a link to a "cloaked" page, the website automatically redirects them to a web page properly written for human viewers. The Search Engine Spiders see the keyword loaded page which is designed to gain a high ranking.

The majority of search engines condemn cloaking. Search engines are much better at detecting cloaking these days, so there is a very high chance that you will be detected. Do not use cloaking and redirects or you are highly likely to find your site gets banned, especially by the major search engines.

3 :: Hidden Text and Links

Hidden text and links are web page content that are invisible to web page readers, but which are visible to the search engines. These are generally links or text which are the same colour as the background colour of a web page. This is an old trick which was used heavily by web designers some years ago to stuff a web page with invisible keywords to improve a page's rank. Search Engines are much better these days at identifying hidden content which is considered as Spam. Sites using this illegal method will often be banned.

4 :: Meta Keyword Spamming

Meta Keyword Spamming is a method of stuffing many keywords in the coding META tags and the body text. This spamming technique is no longer effective on Google as it gives very little weight to the Meta tags these days apart from the Title tag. Do not try keyword spamming, the search engines are very likely to ban the page or even the whole website.

5 :: Linking to Link Farms

Reciprocal links are good for improving rankings. It is vital that you are careful and avoid joining Link Farms which are created to artificially increase your link popularity.

6 :: Cookie-Cutter Web Sites

There are websites that automatically generate 100's of web pages that are essentially clones of one web page repeated many times, but with a few unique lines of text and unique title automatically generated for each.

These days, search engines are very good at spotting this method. It only takes a competitor to report your site to the search engine to get these cookie-cutter pages banned.

Keep Your Web Pages 100% Google Legal

Google considers all the above techniques illegal. If you are involved in any of them, your web pages may face the following penalties:
