The Pocket Dragon Story
An international phenomenon, the success story that is Pocket Dragons began like all good stories with 'Once upon a time…' 'The Big Blue Fairytale Book', given to a young Real by his parents, was to prove the inspiration for a real life fairytale encompassing love, dragons, adventure and magic.
Captivated by the mythical dragons that sprang from the pages of the book Real began to sketch, letting his imagination draw him along a road that would eventually lead to The 'Whimsical World of Pocket Dragons'.
In the early 1970's Real and Muff, fresh from college, embarked upon a year-long voyage of discovery. Globetrotting around Europe, they set off armed with nothing more than $800, a sense of adventure and 'all the time in the world'.
Greeted by a myriad of fascinating sights they were hero and heroine in their own unfolding tale as a world of possibilities spread out before them. Wherever they went, whatever they saw, Real's sketchpad, nestling in the pocket of his English tweed jacket, accompanied them.
The first Pocket Dragon emerged, quite literally, from Real's jacket pocket. That initial sketch was followed some two years later in 1975 by the launch of the first Pocket Dragon print.
A love and understanding of animals is one of the many characteristics that shaped Real and Muff's philosophy and the world of Pocket Dragons. Their dog Flower holds a special place in their hearts and was the inspiration and model for many of the early sculptures. Her expressions, love of cookies, mischievous escapades and innocence have all been captured in Pocket Dragon sculpture forever.
Over time Real and Muff's animal family grew, with the addition of their cats Whimsy, Telemann and Tucker. Their winning personalities provide a treasure trove of creative ideas transformed by the special partnership that exists between Real and Muff. Pocket Dragons capture the endearing qualities of the people and pets we love, bringing magic back into our everyday lives with a 'Happy Ever After'.
